Lee's of Virginia Guestbook Update 01/16/2012

For those of you that have posted so many of your questions about specific ancestors and individual lineages, I have decided to answer all of you as you have posted by designating a page just for your inquiries. You can now open up a discussion or genealogy question by signing up on the new Forum page.  This forum will give all of us a way to address specific genealogy questions and answers.  I will also be incorporating soon a website blog.   This will be more efficient than emailing you all individually as I have tried to do in the past, but I felt that if there are others out there with these same questions, they may benefit fit also by posting the answers and questions publicly.  Thank you again, as always for your posts and inquiries - and the continuous support you all have shown!  Don't forget to check back periodically, I am always trying to add information and new features to aid everyone with their genealogy needs!

I am looking for the source info on "The Carter family, of French and Scot-Irish descent, came from Eng. abt 1621 and settled in Loudon Co, VA between thr Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. Ellen S Carter had this on her family tree stating that by Bible record, it is possible to trace this family for 8 gen to James Carter b: abt 1743 in Loudon Co, VA. James and Hannah had 12 children, their oldest, John, b: 31 Dec 1765. Their youngest son, James Carter, was b: 28 Jun 1791. James is my husbands ancestor and I'm trying to find info on his parents. The Bible refer. would give me this. How can I find info on this Bible record? Ellen S Carter said she got the info from you, Jacquell Finley, a genealogist. Is it possible to get a copy of what was in the Bible, etc? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

I am searching for a connection to my Pulliam line. I have an Alford/Alfred B. Pulliam born 1838 in Virginia; died 1863 in Civil War; married 1858 Arkansas to Leanne House. My line includes their son John Abner Pulliam born 1859 Arkansas; died 1900 Arkansas: two wives Georgianna Balch and Mary Alice Camp. I know there is an Alfred B. Pulliam of the Tennessee Pulliams, but I do not believe he if my line. I tend to believe the Alford is the name I am looking for. Does this fit any clues you could give me? Thanks for your time and your offer to connect online.

My connection to the Lees is through my great grandmother Rebecca Levonia Lee (married Harmon Camp Olmstead).Rebecca's father was Andrew P. Lee. Unfortunately, I have not located the name for what the "P" stands, nor have I located any information on Andrew's parentage. Andrew P. Lee married 1st Anna L. Reeves. She was previously married to and widowed by a Tracy and a Grenard. My great grandmother Rebecca had siblings from Andrew and Anna as well as half siblings from his 2nd marriage after Anna's death. Rebecca was raised by her mother's relations after her mother's death. The family tradition states that Rebecca believed she was a cousin to Robert E. Lee. I'd appreciate it if you would let me know if you have any information on Andrew P. Lee which would connect him to his ancestors. If you wish, I'll supply any dates and locations of which I am aware. Thank you. Rose

Hello! I'm doing a little searching on my ancestry.com family tree and connected with you through John Quick Taylor/Catherine Shephard. I probably don't have any branches of my tree reaching into the Lee's, but I did want to touch base with you, let you know I've wandered into your neighborhood. I'm pretty much a novice to this, and try to do what I can when I can. But I do enjoy reaching out to people. So, I'm married into the Taylor family from Hunterdon County NJ, the family having reached into Hightstown, NJ

Hi Jacqueli: Thanks for your invitation to contact you. I am fairly new at Genealogy, but have made rapid progress in completing most of my family trees back to my great great grandparents. Hopefully my skills as a retired Lawyer will make up for lack of experience in this area. I have spent the last couple of weeks going over my Thurmond roots. My grandmother was a Thurman. Most trees have numerous errors in them. I believe this is due to the fact that every family head in the tree seemed to duplicate those names over and over again. Anyway you have the most accurate tree that I have seen. I would like to know particularly how you connect or source the Two Benjamin Thurmonds, and how you did such a good job of tying these persons in this tree down. I have spent a lot of time trying to do that. I also have a Randolph in my tree. Do you also connect to the Virginia Randolph's through the Lee's? Thanks Curt

Hi Jacqui, How do you keep all this straight? Sorry for the question first but your site is amazing. I have been doing genealogy for 20 years you must have been doing it for 40. I started the old fashioned way actually going to the state capital and city halls on my side. I put it down for quite some time then started on ancestry. My husbandâ??s side is throughout Appalachia. I am in a whole different world! And a confusing one at that. It really takes a lot of studying to figure this out. So many wives died and most likely in childbirth and the husbands remarried and had more. I am currently working the Henry & Wright side. I ventured into the Stoutâ??s and got side tracked last night briefly. One Stout public tree stated to contact this web site. My husbandâ??s 3rd great grandmother was Darcus Virginia Stout Wright. She had 14 to 17 children. I am still working on it. She was on the 1860 census as Virginia. Daughter of David L and Margaret. I did find something that I didnâ??t see on any trees. Margaret died in the 1860â??s but I donâ??t think David did. I was tracking Tennessee because her name seemed easy. I found an 1870 census with Tennessee at age 18. She is living with a Leone Stout. I went back to 1860 and couldnâ??t find a Leone Stout. Do you if you think this might be Davidâ??s middle name? He is remarried to a Salena A and there are 3 new children. Susan 7, Thomas 5, Salena G 3. Susan age 7 indicates Margaret died before 1863. By 1880 Salena and her 3 children (Tennessee was married) moved to Gaston Jones, Wheatly, Tn. I would like to know where Davidâ??s 1st wifeâ??s name came from? I see some have it as Sarah Dove & Sarah Sally Polly. Janice Henry Canton, Ohio

I have heard that there are more than two Lee lines and some are not from Virginia. Now, I am open to hear the proof. I appreciate those that document their work and can show actual history. I am willing to be educated on the Lee family history and see where my family ties run. Thank you for all that you do/have done, B. Scott Williams

I really like your website!! It appears I am a direct descendant of Richard Lee through Anne Lee and Dorcas Youell. If you have uncovered any more recent information about Dorcas Youell and her relationship to Anne Lee, please let us know. Since Dorcas appears on your website, you obviously bellieve her to be the daughter of Anne Lee. However, there has been a lot of controversy about this issue on the genealogy websites due to a birthdate discrepancy. Thanks for any help you can provide -- Diane.

They came from Catherine Neville nee Howard who later became a relative via a sibling of Robert E. Lee. Lavina Hill was a direct relative of Pocahontas which I found interesting. My dad descended via Anna Gorges nee Howard so I was able to go full circle..Very interesting.

Hi Jacqueli, I am a Lee from Kentucky. My father has done a lot of research on our family. I am trying to find out more. We believe we are descendants of Richard Lee I, the immigrant. We also believe that our branch lived in North Carolina before moving into Kentucky in the 1700's. Your website is very informative. I would love to email you and see if you have some info that will help me.

So glad I found your site. I am descended from Capt. Charles Lee Sr. son of Richard (the immigrant) Lee and Anne Constable. Exciting to learn more about the Lee family!

Jacqueli, I was pleasantly surprised to find my query on your Lee site though no one responded as of yet. I mailed you the will of my Henry Lee and marriage certificate of his daughter Mary Willis Lee and Edwin Hord 1796 Woodford Co. Ky. I never knew if you had received them or my query. Do you post those items on your site? I wish you luck in being able to keep the web-site with donations. No offended at all.

Interesting. I'm descended from Robert Redden Smith (b. 1 Apr 1751) and Elizabeth Lee (b. 7 Feb 1761) through their daughter, Susannah, who married Grinsfield Taylor. I'll follow your project closely! As you know, following Taylors and Smiths and Lees through the history of the South is challenging.

Great website site. at family reuions they said the Lee's were our ancestry. I was trying to prove it for a year. I am on ancestry.com and followed the line back to Henry Lee child and date match. Does this mean anything?

My GGgrandmother was Martha Ann Lee who was the GGGGGGgranddaughter of Richard "The Immigrant" Lee. I too have had e-mails telling me that my line is not correct because of DNA testing ( which has been diluted over all these generations), I turn a deaf ear to them. I appreciate your tenacity in this project, I have found it very intriguing the more I search and your info has helped solidify my findings, thank you, Richard

I saw that you have John Lee Esquire as the son of Richard Henry Lee and Mary Young. What an exciting find! How on earth did you find this connection? Where did you find it? What documentation shows this relationship? I am one of his descendants- through his son John and grandson Burrell who moved to Alabama.

Not sure yet how I'm related to the Lee's . I've related to Sir Edward Phylyppe. Everyone in my family though has a middle name with the surname of "Lee". I imagine from Elizabeth Lee in England. Peace, Karen

You mentioned you had more information for me on the Mary Reed Lea, Nancy Clay family. Mary Lea married Samuel Lee 1860-70 South Carolina. Land settlement La. 1808. Samuel Lee Jr. married Sarah Cleveland Lee daughter Daniel and Jemima Cleveland. You have all my Clays, Cleveland, Prosser, French, in your ancestry. Let's match these people up! Thanks for all you do to help so many people with the Lee name!Hope to hear from you.

I am the grandson (GS) of Edgar Neil Teague (b10/24/1891, d1/26/1961); G GS of William Perry Teague (b1/16/1845 d8/3/1904) and GG GS of a William Teague (bAbt 1815), but I can find no record of him except a 1860 census in SC. I note from ncestry.com you have a connection to John M Teague (b7/4/1884 b10/24/1904) in your tree when I did a search. Do you have further details on my GG GF William b Abt 1815?
